GB-A Brysson copy has a pencil note from JMurdoch Henderson: 'I have also a copy with original imprint of "N Stewart --- Parliament Square"'.
The earliest copy has the spelling 'Reells', but later Steuart copy and Brysson edition have 'Reels'.
Although the score claims to have been entered at Stationers' Hall, only the Twenty Minuets and Sixteen Reels actually appear there.
A small book, containing mostly reels. There are simple four-beat basslines, solid and confident.
Biographical info: Daniel Dow (1732-1783) was born in Perthshire, and lived and worked in Edinburgh from c.1765. He gave concerts in St Mary's Hall Edinburgh. Anecdotally, he was a music teacher who specialised in the guitar. (Glen 1, ix; Baptie; Alburger). One of the GB-A copies of Thirty-seven New Reels notes in ink that [Dow] died of fever January 1783, aged 51 years (burial register of Cannongate, Edinburgh).
