A Collection of the Newest and Best Minuets
by Stewart, Neil

Full title: A Collection of the Newest and Best Minuets Adapted for the Violin or German Flute With a Bass for the Violincello or Harpsichord.

Publisher: Edinburgh: Neil Stewart

Date: [1770?]

Description:

The book was originally sold in up to twelve separate numbers of 8 pages.
The GB-En copy has a pencil note by J. Murdoch Henderson dating it c.1770, and hence later than the GB-DUcl copy.
The GB-DUcl copy has 80 pages and additional handwritten tunes, unrelated to the Stewart book. The manuscript material is possibly from James Campbell, who signed the titlepage in 1775.

Notes:

Out of 109 minuets in GB-En copy (and five included in the handwritten copy from GB-DUcl), 15 have 2nd violin parts, all towards the latter part of the book. Two are by Mackintosh, including 'Lady Amelia (Emelia) Ker's' with 'pia' 'Cris' & 'for' markings (p, f, cresc.) in bars 5, 7, 8 of 2nd strain. 11 minuets are by Schetky.

Gore: S12-3
