A Collection of Original Scotch Tunes for the Violin The whole Pleasant and Comical
by John Young

Full title: A Collection of Original Scotch Tunes for the Violin The whole Pleasant and Comical being full of the Highland Humour.

Publisher: London: John Young

Date: 1720

Description:

This is a different collection from Playford's earlier, and similarly named, A Collection of Original Scotch Tunes (Full of the Highland Humours).
An additional sheet at front of the GB-En copy has in ink 'John Muir Wood Esqr. / from his friend Mr Chappell'. Chappell abandoned plans to publish a Scottish song collection and gave his box of materials to Wood. Could this be from that box? (See McAulay)

Notes:

This is a tune collection with no basses, and notably careless spelling of titles: 'Scoh Tune', 'Bonie Kirsty', 'Cocks Louns walie hoyn', 'The Loss of Betties Mills' (given in F), 'Katrin Hoggie', 'Bonne Katte of Edane', and several tunes called 'A Scotch Measure', one of which is in 3/4.

Gore: Y1
