The GB-Gm copy lacks the Preface which is in IMSLP copy. The IMSLP copy is lacking the final page (p.15), containing 'Gilderoy' and 'The Mill Mill-O'. GB-Gm copy was bought in London by Frank Kidson in June 1887 for 4/-, has his pencil note on the pasted-on end paper: "published 14 January 1742 See Caledonian Mercury & Scots Magazine for Jan 1742"
Grammatical Italianate single line basslines, some elegant, some more rhythmic. The Preface mentions how the tunes have not been altered to fit the basses.
Wighton made his MS copy from 'an Original Copy, in possession of David Laing Esqr., Signet Library, Edinburgh'.
Biographical info: Francesco Barsanti (c.1690-1760) was born in Lucca; spent some time in Scotland, where he published this collection;and died in London after living there for about a decade. (Baptie)
