Both this and the second book are signed on the titlepage by John Clarkson Jnr.

Notes:

This collection exhibits simple pianism, complete with some unimaginative variations on 'The Highland Laddie' (actually 'Kate Dalrymple'). There are simple basslines, some in octaves, some broken chords, and other easy piano figurations.
The book contains quite a few marches (both the slow and fast marches of the Borrowstounness [Bo'ness] Volunteers. The book ends with 'The Fall of Paris'.

Biographical info: John Clarkson Snr died in St Andrews, 1812. He was a violinist, dancing master and compiler. Clarkson's Musical Entertainment was published in London.
