Campbell, Alexander
Biographical info
Campbell lived 1764-1824. Born in Tombea, near Callander, and strongly aware of his Highland identity, he spent most of his life in Edinburgh. He was a one-time medical student, an organist, composer, song-collector, writer about Scottish literature, poet, and farmer. Had reason to be grateful for having been Sir Walter Scott's music tutor, for the latter put work his way when Campbell fell upon hard times. (McAulay, Alburger)
