Dun, Finlay
Biographical info
Finlay Dun (1795-1853) was born in Aberdeen, lived and died in Edinburgh; he was the son of a dancing master and played for his father in his youth. He is said to have imorted the quadrille to Scotland from France c.1815-16. (Alburger, 114) A composer, arranger and scholar, he compiled song collections with/for Lady Carolina Nairne, and another with Edinburgh music professor John Thomson. He moved in scholarly Edinburgh musical circles, and wrote an essay for Dauney.
