The collection contains mostly strathspeys and reels, and a few jigs. Macdonald was cellist to Niel Gow, and the book includes tunes by both Niel and Nathaniel. It also has a subscribers list. Price 2/6 [corrected edition is 3/]

Notes

Whilst there are occasional double-stops in the tunes, the basslines are always simple, almost as austere as McGlashan's.

Malcolm Macdonald was born in Dunkeld (c.1750), and was active c.1785-1800. He was sometime cellist to Niel Gow. (Alburger, 117; Glen 1, xii)
