Description:
A London publication with a suitably impressive subscriber list, including 20 copies to Niel Gow, 20 to John, 20 to Andrew and 12 to Nathaniel. There are many dedicated pieces, and evidently an association with the Highland Society.
GB-En copy has bound in 'The Prince of Wales medley', 'Jenkins's compliment to Dr Haydn', and 'Haydn's Strathspey', all by Jenkins.
Notes:
The collection features single note basslines, with many stock bass patterns (particularly in the first two bars).
This is a comparatively early London example of Scottish dance music, mostly reels and strathspeys.
'Haydn's Strathspey' is almost the same as 'Lady Cathcart's Strathspey' on p13.

Biographical info: George Jenkins (c.1760-c.1806) was a London teacher of 'Scotch dancing'; the publication of his earliest work in Edinburgh by Brysson c.1789-90 suggests he had left Scotland by 1794. He was friendly with the Gow family, and possibly came from Perthshire. (Alburger, 62) Further works include Eighteen Airs for two violins and a bass (London: For the Author, c.1785; Edinburgh: Brysson, c.1790), and reports of another title, Thirty Highland Airs (London, 1791) (Glen 2, xvi; Baptie)
