Biographical info: John Playford (1623-1686/87) was born in Norwich, and possibly attended the cathedral choir school; he then moved to London to be apprenticed to a London publisher, publishing The English Dancing Master, which ran to many editions. (Alburger, 19-21) Besides his own publishing business, he was also a vicar-choral at St Paul's Cathedral, and towards the end of his life, a clerk to the Temple Church. (Grove)
