Twelve Scotch, and Twelve Irish Airs with variations
by Thumoth, Burk

Full title: Twelve Scotch, and Twelve Irish Airs with variations Set for the German Flute Violin or Harpsichord, by Mr. Burk Thumoth.

Publisher: London: John Simpson

Printer: Printed for John Simpson

Date: [1745]

Description:

Kidson (p.50, p.131) notes that 1st edition was by John Simpson (succeeded by John Cox), the 2nd by Thorowgood (1760s), and the 3rd by the Thompsons, all from the original plates.

Notes:

The basslines in this collection are Italianate with figures, but some are simpler, especially in the Irish section of the book (nos. 13-24). Some have quaver figurations, including 'Wallace March' whose setting is clearly based on that in Alexander Munro's A Collection of the Best Scots Tunes (Paris, 1732). 'The Irish Cry' (no.23) has no bass, but the following Jig to it has.
