A Second Collection of Reels, Strathspeys, Jigs, &c
by James Walker

Full title: A Second Collection of Reels, Strathspeys, Jigs, &c with a bass for the violoncello or harpsichord; also defferent [sic] Marches for Volunteer Corps. Dedicated by Permission to Lady St. Clair Erskine of Sinclair by James Walker

Publisher: The Author

Printer: Printed for the Author

Date: 1800

Description:

Transcription included in HMT volume Fiddle Music from Fife (2006).

Notes:

At first, the approach to basslines here seems similar to that of Walker's first book. However, several tunes have awkward, unusual, or apparently just incompetent passages, where a stock bassline has been used that doesn't really fit the tune at all. This suggests that different individuals provided the basslines for the two collections.
The two marches with quick steps at the end of the book, for the Auchtertool Volunteers and the Dysart Volunteers, are given for two trebles (violins?) and bass, but the harmony is full of glaring errors. There are some variations.
