Description:

This book is bound together with A Favourite Collection of Scots Tunes in the GB-Gm copy, has the running title 'J. Aird's Reels', and is grouped similarly thus: 'No. 2 J. Aird's Reels' etc., and with printers marks A 16, B 16.
The two books look almost identical in layout and engraving. A pencil note indicates 'WM 1804' on the flyleaf of GB-Gm copy.

Notes:

Aird's Reels has for the most part simple 4-beat basslines, some with chords, dyads or octaves. There is a clear distinction in bass style between the Scots Tunes and Reels.Many tunes are not found elsewhere; this is material of character. Aird's Reels has a wild version of 'The Haggies of Dumbar' which moves between A major and minor (key-signature of two sharps and plenty of C naturals added). The tune, 'I winnae gang to bed till I'm married' appears as 'I'll no gang to my bed till I get a Nod'
