by Cunningham, William

Full title: The Highland Medley, or Imitation of the Bag Pipe with other Favourite Tunes, as performed before His Royal Highness Prince Leopold At Buchanan House the Seat of His Grace the Duke of Montrose / Also at the Greenock Hunt Ball the 6th. Octr. 1819 by Cunningham & His Band.

Publisher: Glasgow: William Cunningham

Printer: Engraved by Hutton & Balbirnie, Edinburgh.

Date: 1819

Notes:

Cunningham's reels and strathspeys have single note basslines, whilst the other tunes have pianistic left-hand chords and octaves. A footnote says 'The tunes in this Medley, makes a good Imitiation of the highland Bag Pipe, upon the Violin, when tuned for that Purpose." [presumably ae'a'e''].
The medley begins with 'The Duke of Atholl's March' (although this is not the title given) and ends with 'Sherriff Muir' (also known as 'Kafoozlum', 'Hands Up Kick the Can', or 'Will Ye Go to Sheriff Muir?'). There are two mentions of Slow with 'Expression'.

Biographical info: Cunningham (fl.1817-1830s), a Glasgow music teacher who also ran a band for balls and assemblies, and published reels, medleys, quadrilles, waltzes etc. for piano forte and harp. (Glasgow Directory 1818-1821 via NLS Digital Gallery)
