This publication includes Gow's refutation of Watlen's publication of the tunes danced at the ball in honour of the Princess Royal's Marriage at Windsor: Nathaniel Gow played at the ball, and he points out that Watlen printed the wrong tunes, and provides a list the correct ones.
'The Prince of Wales's Strathspey' is reproduced from John & Andrew Gow's A Collection of Slow Airs, Strathspeys and Reels. (It later appeared in the 2nd part of The Beauties of Niel Gow.) The basslines are simple: some dyads in small notes, some pedal, hence clearly intended for piano. 'A Favourite Welch Air' is 'The Ash Grove'.
The wedding referred to took place on 18 May 1797; this is also inked on the GB-DUcl copy.

Biographical info: Niel Gow (1727-1807), father of the famous Gow family, lived in Inver near Dunkeld. (Glen 2, viii-xiv; Grove; Alburger; Murdoch, 41-48) Gow's fourth son Nathaniel (1763-1831), violinist and Edinburgh publisher, was perhaps the most famous of the siblings; but his brothers William, John and Andrew also traded in music (John and Andrew in London). Nathaniel's son, Niel Junr., lived 1795-1823.
